- 1). Lift congealed substances, such as butter, chocolate or other sauces, with a knife blade or spoon before cleaning the spot. Take care not to scrape the removal utensil across the fabric or you risk rubbing it into the fabric, making removal more difficult or impossible.
- 2). Place a white paper towel behind the spot as you work so the staining element can move from the fabric onto something else. Carbona recommends saturating the stain with the appropriate solution, dabbing at the stain with your fingertips and working from the outside toward the center to transfer it onto the paper towel. Avoid rubbing the stain.
- 3). Rinse the stain with hot water. Contrary to the common belief that cold water is the best for stain removal, Carbona recommends hot.
- 4). Use the appropriate formula for the stain. The Stain Devils system features nine solutions, "each specially formulated to remove specific stains," according to Carbona.
