- 1). Empty the cast aluminum birdbath of the old water. Tip it over carefully to do this.
- 2). Mix a solution of nine parts water to one part chlorine bleach in a small bucket. Pour this liquid in the birdbath.
- 3). Scrub the birdbath out using a nylon scrub brush. Dump the bleach water out.
- 4). Rinse the birdbath with the garden hose. Dump any standing water and allow the metal surface a few hours to completely dry.
- 5). Fill the birdbath with fresh water. Add a few drops of chlorine bleach to the water to discourage bacterial growth. A small amount will not be harmful to birds and other wildlife.
