- 1). Sprinkle baking soda over the entire floor as well as any furniture or other reachable surfaces, and let it sit overnight. The baking soda naturally absorbs odor, and it also works well for absorbing excess moisture if you have a musty odor in the basement. Vacuum the next day to collect the baking soda.
- 2). Fill a spray bottle with 1 part white vinegar and 1 part water. Spray this around as an odor-neutralizing spray that naturally gets rid of the stuffy smell without using chemicals. This can be sprayed into the area plus onto the floor and other surfaces around the basement. Use as needed.
- 3). Open windows and let air circulate. Open curtains as well so sunlight can get into the room.
- 4). Place fans at one side of the room, and point the fans toward open windows at the other side of the room. This improves air circulation and gets rid of the stuffy smell.
