- 1). Remove the drain plug or drain cover. You might be able to do this by hand, or you might need to use a screwdriver to remove it.
- 2). Straighten the hanger by hand. Using the pliers, make a small loop at one end.
- 3). Stick the coat hanger down the drain as far as it will go. If you don't feel resistance, chances are you haven't hit the elbow where the clog is. In this case, you can tie two coat hangers together, using pliers to twist them, and try again.
- 4). Rotate the hanger clockwise several times as you are pushing it down the drain. Pull the hanger back out and clean the hair and soap scum off with a paper towel. Repeat the process until no more material comes up.
- 5). Fill a pot with water and boil it on the stove. Slowly pour the boiling water down the drain to remove any more residue.
