- 1). Lay out the rolls of radiant barrier on the ground outside your home. Use measuring tape and a utility knife to measure and cut sections from each roll of about 15 to 20 feet long.
- 2). Roll up each strip and take the strips to your attic, basement, crawlspace or wherever you're installing the radiant barrier. If you are working in an attic, lay down a few 4-by-4 wood panels on the rafters for support during the installation process.
- 3). Start at one corner of the exposed wall. Place one end of the barrier material strip inside the wall and on top of the existing insulation with the brown side of the barrier facing out. Use a staple gun to attach the barrier strip to each beam on the wall.
- 4). Place the second strip on top of the strip you just installed, letting the second strip overlap the first strip by 2 to 3 inches. Cut several small strips of foil tape, and tape the two strips together along the seam. Staple the second radiant barrier strip to the wall beams.
- 5). Repeat this until the entire wall area is covered in radiant barrier. Use a utility knife to cut away any extra radiant barrier material so the strips lay evenly against the corners of each wall.
