- 1). Measure the size of the object you will be removing with a tape measure. Run the tape measure across the object and record the measurement. Choose the extractor that is the proper size. Sizes range from 5/64 inch up to 1 1/16 inch. Choose a bit that is slightly smaller than the object being removed so the center can be drilled into.
- 2). Attach the proper size screw extractor to a power drill. Press down firmly on the screw or bolt you are removing and drill a hole directly through the center of it with the power drill. Push down on the drill until the screw extractor goes straight through the bolt or screw.
- 3). Remove the screw extractor from the power drill and insert it into the hole. Attach a tap wrench to the top of the extractor screw and turn it counter clockwise so it can grip the sides of the drilled hole.
- 4). Turn until the screw extractor is in as far as it will go. Pull up carefully on the screw extractor. The screw or bolt will attach to the threaded extractor and come out with the extractor. Inspect the inside and verify that there are no small pieces remaining.
