- 1). Using a pencil, draw a design onto the exterior of the shed in the spot you want it located. Use a flexible curve ruler to achieve a variety of flowing curved lines if they are required for the design you are drawing.
- 2). Cut along the outside lines of the design with a chip carving knife. Hold the knife with the blade angled inward slightly on both sides of the outside lines. This removes a V-shaped cut from the wood once you complete both sides of the outside lines. Continue in this manner until the entire design is carved out. Take small chips of wood at a time rather than making large deep cuts.
- 3). Sand the surface of the carving lightly with fine-grit sandpaper. This removes any stray pencil marks and cleans any edges of cuts that might not be completely crisp. Always sand with the grain.
