- 1). Load the Install disc in your computer's optical drive. Go to the "Apple" menu and select "Restart." Press the "Restart" button in the pop-up window.
- 2). Hold down the "C" key on your Mac's keyboard as the computer reboots. Holding down the "C" key tells the computer to boot up from the disc instead of the hard drive. It may take several minutes to start up.
- 3). Select a language and press the arrow button to get to the main menu.
- 4). Go to the "Utilities" or "Installer" menu. Highlight the option to "Password Reset" or "Reset Password.
- 5). Click on your hard drive in the top of the menu. The default Mac hard drive name is "Macintosh HD."
- 6). Use the menu to select the name of the original administrator account for the computer.
- 7). Enter and confirm a new password for the account. Enter a hint to the password in the text box if desired.
- 8). Press the "Save" button and click on the red button at the top of the window to leave this utility.
- 9). Open the "Mac OS X Installer" menu at the top of the screen and highlight "Quit Mac OS X Installer." Press the "Restart" button to start up your computer in normal mode.
