Laundry Product Review of Tide Plus Coldwater Clean

About.com Rating

Each year, approximately 45 billion loads of laundry are cleaned in United States homes (not all of them in your house, even if it seems that way). These loads of laundry produce around 40 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2). If all of those loads were washed in cold water, the energy saved from not heating the water would reduce CO2 emissions by 32.3 million metric tons. That's a huge reduction in air pollution and for consumers, lower energy bills and more money in your pocket.

Tide Plus Coldwater Clean

As part of the new Tide Plus Collection launched in early 2014, Tide Coldwater Clean has been reformulated from the original Tide Coldwater that came to the market in 2005 to offer more cleaning effectiveness. Tide Plus Coldwater Clean is safe to use on all washable fabrics and is available in formulas for both standard washers and high-efficiency washers. It is biodegradable and safe for use with septic tanks and systems.

About Laundry Recommendations

Just stop and think about how far we've come from when our great-great grandmothers boiled clothes over a fire to get them clean. Now we can have clean clothes in cold water.

I gave Tide Plus Coldwater Clean Fresh Scent a two-week trial with our regular home laundry. The clothes came out smelling fresh and with daily soil and most stains gone. I also tested the product with prestained muslin squares with ketchup, mud, grass and cooking oil stains. After an initial wash, only slight traces of the red mud and oil remained. In the next test, I pretreated the mud and oil stains with a bit of the liquid Tide Coldwater Clean and allowed it to work in for about 10 minutes. After another trip through the washer, the stains were gone.

As a side note, Tide Coldwater Clean can be used in any temperature wash water. This is particularly important for those dealing with laundry loads that require hot water such as diapers, sick bed linens or lice infestations.

Tide Plus Coldwater Clean is a high performance detergent for removing stains and everyday soil.
