- 1). Sweep or vacuum your wood floor to remove dust and other particles. If you have furniture on your wood floor, use a broom to sweep particles from under all of your furniture. A vacuum can also be used but may prove difficult to maneuver under furniture.
- 2). Prepare your mopping solution. Fill your bucket with warm water. Add about 1/4 cup of white vinegar to your water. This will help remove stains from your floor without destroying your sealant or warping the surface of your wood.
- 3). Soak your mop in your solution and wring it out. Squeeze the sponge or strings of the mop with your hands to make sure that there is no loose water in the mop. Too much water will cause your wood floor to warp or stain.
- 4). Glide your mop over your wood floor, applying pressure in areas that contain stains. If your floor is unsealed, use a towel to dry the floor as you mop.
- 5). Scrub stains that were not removed by mopping with a moist sponge. If your floor is unsealed, dry the area immediately after scrubbing.
- 6). Apply wax to an unsealed floor. Scrape wax out of your wax container using a towel. Apply the wax over the area of the floor by rubbing the floor with the towel in a circular motion. Wax will provide unsealed floors with extra shine.
