Leather Furniture Repair and Restoration in St Charles 314-925-2000

Leather restoration is not a hobby, it is an art. To ensure the very best results where your leather is concerned, always make sure you get the job done right from the start.
Leather Repair
Your leather was a huge investment in your home decor. Careful consideration must be made when contemplating how to keep leather loOKing its best. If you have noticed some signs of age or wear in your leather, be careful in your approach for leather restoration.
Small scrapes, scratches and rips can sometimes be repaired yourself, but larger issues like pets chewing, or cat scratches, extreme fading and color loss, should be addressed with professional assistance.
When leather furniture is first made, it is dyed in a leather tannery, so the color is rich and even across the entire hide. Then the furniture is constructed and this tanned leather is wrapped around it, sewn to fit perfectly. Because leather is a skin, it is prone to scratches, scrapes, cuts, nicks and color loss/changes/fading, just like human skin is. Over time, leather also loses its elasticity, just like human skin does. The cushions on your beloved leather furniture may begin to slighly stretch and lose their original shape, which is partly why leather is so comfortable, it forms to how you like to sit on it. But over time, our clothing or shoes, and even our pets may accidentally cause snags in the leather, small scrapes and knicks may go unnoticed by you, but if left untreated, can become larger issues.
Leather needs to be maintained, kind of like how you maintain your car. You can't just drive it forever with out refilling the gas or getting the oil changed. It would ruin the engine. The same principle applies to leather furniture. Since it is an organic material, skin, it needs regular gentle cleaning as well as conditioning.
Regularly Scheduled Leather Maintainence?
To keep your leather loOKing it's best and lasting a lifte time, it is important to remember to take care of it with a little TLC every few months. Gentle cleaning, leather conditioning, and checking to see if any leather repairs are needed will not only ensure that your leather loOKs fantastic for years, but that it will maintain its soft texture, bright color and stay moisturized to avoid dryrotting.
Try these easy steps to maintain your leather yourself, at home:
1. Get a clean towel or rag and a spray bottle, fill it with water, add 5 drops of liquid dish soap, like Dawn. Shake it up.
2. Mist a small area of your leather just to barely moisten it. Wipe thoroughly but gently with the clean towel.
3. Do this across the entire leather sofa, being careful not to soak or really wet the leather, because this can cause warping. (If you are nervous you will use too much, spray this gentle cleaner on the towel instead of onto your sofa.)
4. Grab another clean towel, and high quality leather conditioner, the best one I have found is "Lexol Leather Condtioner".
5. Spray Lexol directly onto the leather, just a few sprays per cushion, and massage into the leather. This keeps the leather soft and moisturized. Lexol also helps to maintain the protective top coat that helps to repel stains, sweat and oils from our skin that can lead to discoloration and damage to the leather.
Leather furniture dye's application after all leather repairs are made will restore the leather's color as well as make stains vanish, and add years of prolonged use to the newly protected leather's surface.

Sometimes, cleaning and conditioning your leather furniture isn't enough. Or even if you do a great job maintaining the leather furniture in your home, there are still things that happen beyond our control. Like damages that need some major restoration or repairs. And thats OK because life is unpredictable! And there is always a solution, if you ask the right questions.
Leather Repair is a valuable tool that is often overloOKed. Many people believe that their couch or chair is simply ruined once it begins to show some wear and tear. But that's far from the truth. Before you go out and replace that costly chair or sofa, dig a little deeper into the world of leather repair.
Depending on the severity of the damage, there are usually several options, such as do it yourself kits (which are usually NOT the way to go) or to get some professional assistance. Whatever method you choose, just be sure to do your research and read reviews before making a decision. High quality leather repairs will not only be nearly invisible but will last for YEARS to come, and extend the life of your leather furniture for YEARS as well!
Also, don't be fooled by the "big box" corporation type repair services. Many will suggest that you "bring" your sofa to them, and leave it for 4-6 weeks while they "fix 'er up." This is not the answer!!! There are reputable companies that can handle your leather repair and restore YEARS of damage in just a few hours. Thats right, HOURS, not WEEKS. And they will come to you. There is absolutley no need to drag a huge leather sectional to some shop across town to have a couple of cat scratches removed, or to redye and refinish some stained seat cushions! Be assured, there are Leather repair professionals in your area that will come to you and take care of your leather.
Whatever methods you choose to go about your leather restoration needs, rest assured that regularly cleaning and maintaining your leather will extend it's life for many years to come.
Always remember, treat your leather like an investment. As you would for gold or jewelry, leather can last for decades, but only if you treat it right.
