- 1). Locate the main water supply line for the house and shut off the supply. It is important to attach the irrigation system prior to any other connections to the mainline. The irrigation system needs the full pressure of the water service to operate properly.
- 2). Drain the water system for the house. This can be done by opening an outside faucet and one inside faucet. This will relieve the pressure in the system and help to create less mess.
- 3). Cut the supply line with the pipe cutter in two places no more than three-quarter inches apart. this is the amount of space required to install a standard PVC pipe tee.
- 4). Prime the pipe on both sides of the cut and all three connections points on the tee.
- 5). Apply PVC glue to the two straight connections on the tee and the supply line on both sides of the pipe. Quickly install the tee on both sides of the cut supply line. This may require bending one side slightly. Make sure the tee is oriented properly, because PVC glue dries fast. If the tee is not oriented properly then the tee will have to be cut out or extra pipe and fittings will be needed to feed the irrigation system.
- 6). Attach PVC pipe from the irrigation system to the third side of the tee. This may require extra fittings and pipe. Then allow the system to sit for one hour.
- 7). Turn the main water supply back on to the house, close both faucets and check for leaks. If leaks exist, the system will have to be shut off and re-drained to repair the leaks.
