- 1). Do quick cleaning before use. If you are using a whirlpool for the first time or a whirlpool outside your home, flush the pipes with a product called Oxy-flush that is used to clean touch stains in toilets (as opposed to Oxyflush, the colon cleanser). To use Oxy-flush to clean your whirlpool bath, fill up the tub above the jets and hold a container of Oxy-flush next to the intake, allowing it to go through the pipes and flush them clean. Run the whirlpool for 30 minutes, drain it and run it again to rinse.
- 2). Maintain your whirlpool monthly to keep it sanitized. This can be done with regular household products. Using the same fill-and-run method as used with the Oxy-flush, just add a cup of dishwasher detergent such as Cascade or Palmolive and run the whirlpool for 20 minutes. Bleach and vinegar are also acceptable cleansers to use to sanitize your whirlpool tub.
- 3). Use whirlpool spa sanitizer tablets or cleansers every time you use your whirlpool bath. Some of the brand names for these tablets are Ei-Giene Whirlpool Bath Sterilising Tablets or Sani-Bath. These are to be used after each bath to prevent germs from growing in your pipes.
