- 1). Place your computer close enough to the television that your HDMI cable can reach both. Plug the VGA-HDMI converter into the VGA port on the computer.
- 2). Plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI converter, then the HDMI port on the back or side of the HDTV. Note the input or source you plugged it into -- usually 1, 2 or 3.
- 3). Power on your computer and your television. Log into your Windows operating system. Right-click the Windows desktop and click "Properties."
- 4). Click "Settings." Use the drop-down menu to select your television as the display instead of the laptop screen. Slide the resolution slider to 1920x1080, or as high as it will go.
- 5). Use the "Select" or "Input" button on your TV remote to cycle through the HDMI inputs until you reach the input you used in Step 2. Click "OK" on the computer. Check to make sure the picture is visible and clear. If it is not, repeat Step 4 and try another resolution, like 1280x720 or 1366x768.
- 6). Plug in an external mouse and keyboard if you wish to use the computer from a distance. If you're planning on using the computer for a long time, plug in the AC adapter to the nearest outlet.
