- 1). Open the caliper arms and clean them by blowing compressed air on them. Calipers are highly sensitive, and even trace amounts of dust can lead to false measurements. Also, after each use, wipe the caliper with a clean cloth.
- 2). Close the caliper arms completely. Use the jaw screw to close the arms down.
- 3). Unscrew the adjustment screw on the calipers; it's typically found under the caliper arms. Turn this screw until the needle on the caliper gauge reads zero.
- 4). Screw down the adjustment screw. The caliper is now zeroed and ready for making accurate measurements.
