- 1). Place the APC Smart-UPS 5000 unit on its side if it is placed on a rug so that there won’t be a heat buildup beneath it. Place the APC Smart-UPS 5000 face down on a rug or on a towel placed on a table. Slide the battery cover off the back with a sliding motion to the outer edge.
- 2). Lift the battery out of the battery compartment. Remove the plastic tab from the end of the battery contact on the battery. Place the battery clip at the end of the loose wire that is inside the compartment on the end of the battery contact. Place the battery back in the compartment and slide the lid closed.
- 3). Turn the APC Smart-UPS 5000 over. Place the APC on the floor next to the computer. Shut the computer off if it is running. Remove the computer’s power cord from the 120V outlet.
- 4). Plug the computer’s power cord into one of the outlets on the APC that is labeled “Surge/Battery backup.” Plug the power cord attached to the APC into the 120V outlet. Let the APC’s battery charge overnight.
- 5). Turn the power switch on the APC to the “On” position. Turn the computer on to enjoy the protection of the APC’s battery backup feature.
