- 1). Remove the coffee pot, commonly referred to as a carafe. This is where most of the coffee residue will remain long after you have rinsed it. Using a combination of vinegar and water, swish the water around in the pot until you no longer see any coffee grinds. Wash the pot with hot, soapy water using a sponge. Make sure to rinse the pot at least two to three times with hot water and finally give it a final rinse with cold water to remove any soap residue. Allow the pot to sit about 10 minutes with water in it to catch any remaining soapy residue. Pour out the water and allow the pot to sit on a paper towel.
- 2). Take the filter off the pot and wash it thoroughly with hot, soapy water. Allow the water to completely immerse the filter to clean off all coffee residue. Be sure to wash off the outside of the coffee maker to remove old coffee stains.
- 3). Wet a sponge with one part water and one part baking soda and scrub the inside of the coffee maker canister until it gleams. Rinse and repeat the process again.
- 4). Fill the coffee pot with water and pour it into the coffee maker. Place the filter back into the coffee maker, place the pot into its designated spot, and turn on the machine. Allow the coffee maker to drip as if it's making a pot of coffee. This will warm the water and cycle through the coffee maker, thereby cleaning it thoroughly before its next actual coffee use.
