- 1). Mirrors can get scratched at one point or another; either through moving to a new home, doing construction work close to where the mirror is located or by some other means.
- 2). While many professionals say that you cannot get rid of scratches on a mirror except to change the glass, there are a few homemade tips you can try and see how successful you get. When the scratch occurs, or when it comes to your attention, feel it to see if it is deep in the glass (if it is rough under the fingers), if it isn't, you can try to polish it out, although this tends to fog up your glass. If it is in deep you can try the other methods.
- 3). You can start by putting some clear silicone into the scratch and level it off with a razor. While clear silicone is not really clear, you can try it and if it doesn't work, you can use xylene to dissolve the silicone or you can use WD40.
- 4). If the scratch is close to the edge of mirror, the mirror can be framed with wood molding to cover up the scratch, putting it out of sight and giving it its original luster and shine.
- 5). If nothing else works, and it is really bothering you, you can have the mirror professionally re-silvered, making it look brand new, and making you feel better in the process.
