- 1). Run two to three large floor fans inside a block garage to keep the air circulating and from becoming stagnant. Point one fan towards the ceiling, the other toward the floor.
- 2). Open the garage door and windows during non-humid or rain-free days to allow outdoor air circulation.
- 3). Set a dehumidifier inside the garage and allow it to run continuously until water stops filling the drain pan. Run the dehumidifier two to three days a week afterwards to keep humidity low inside the garage.
- 4). Remove standing water from the garage floor with a wet/dry vacuum. Water left on garage floors after washing a car or cleaning tools add to the humidity within the area.
- 5). Place extensions on downspouts located near the garage. The extensions carry rainwater farther away from the garage, keeping it from seeping through the block to the interior space.
- 6). Look for pooling water around the exterior base of the blocks after a rainfall. A proper grade of 2 percent sloped from the foundation for 10 feet keeps water from corroding the block. For large areas, have a professional landscaper slope the area for you.
