Everything You Need To Know About Rockin Green Laundry Detergent

About.com Rating

If an Oscar was given for the best detergent names, Rockin Green would have a mantle full of little gold men - Lavender Mint Revival, Bare Naked Babies, Earth Wind and Orchids, Smashing Watermelons, Rage Against the Raspberries, Motley Clean and just for the holidays - Red Hot Apple Cider. So, how do these rockin' names roll?

Rockin Green Laundry Detergent

Rockin Green Laundry Detergent is offered in three formulas - Soft Rock, Classic Rock and Hard Rock.

These formulas correspond to the type of water in your part of the United States. Detergents react differently in soft and hard water. The hardness level of water is determined by the amount of minerals in the water. If you are unsure about the type of water in your local area, contact your county health department. Some offer free water analysis or they can give you information on how to have your water tested. Rockin Green has a map of the United States to help you determine which formula of their detergent you should use.

Rockin Green can be used in a standard washer or high-efficiency (HE) washers. It is dye-free, safe for septic tanks, phosphate free, sulfate (SLS - No Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Diethanolamine Lauryl Sulfate or Alpha Olefin Sulfonate) free, paraben (preservative) free and comes in a recyclable package. Listed ingredients:
  • sodium carbonate
  • sodium percarbonate
  • natural chelating agents
  • sodium sulfate
  • bio-degradable surfactants

  • natural fragrance (all formulas except Bare Naked Babies)
Rockin Green is promoted as a detergent for soaking and washing cloth diapers. However, it can also be used for any washable fabric. To achieve the best results for cloth diapers, Rockin Green has five tips that should be followed.

Rockin Green products are available online and at select retailers. The product line is not available at this time at mass merchandisers. The suggested retail price is $14.95 (45 oz.) for 45 regular loads and 90 high-efficiency (HE) loads.

    About the Rockin Green Company

Rockin Green is a fast-growing small company that was founded by Kim Webb in 2009. Ms. Webb and her husband developed the detergent formula after searching for a way to clean diapers for their son. As they tinkered with the formula, they shared the results with friends and soon the demand for the product was established.

Based in Texas, the product is manufactured in the United States. The product contains no optical brighteners or chemicals that can coat fabrics and lessen absorbency or irritate skin. Ms. Webb, a marketing major, says the fun names come from a collaborative effort within the office as employees share their favorite rock band groups' names.

In addition to Rockin Green detergents, the company offers Funk Rock - an in-wash ammonia odor remover, Dog House Rock - a pet bed & toy detergent, Femme Rock - a cloth menstrual pad detergent, Melody Odor - a fabric odor neutralizer and fragrance spray and Shake it Up - a diaper pail freshener.

Ms. Webb and the company have won several awards including the 2011 Stevie Award for Women in Business as the fastest growing company of the year and one for best entrepreneur. The product is also endorsed by the MACT (Mother Approved and Child Tested) Awards.

    About Laundry Recommendation

Since I have long since passed the diaper-washing stage of life, I shared some Rockin Green with a young mother who had plenty of chances to put it to good use. I also tested the product on our regular laundry.

By following the Rockin Green recommendations for diapers of pre-soaking diapers with the product and then running them through a wash/rinse cycle and then washing again with more Rocking Green and double rinsing, the diapers came out soft, smelling fresh with most of the stains removed. Even with the scented detergents, the diapers retained no scent other than cleanliness.

When I gave it a try on our regular adult laundry, I was not as pleased with the results. I did not do a presoak or use hot water on non-cotton clothes. We were left with some stains that had to be treated with a stain remover and rewashed. The clothes were soft and smelled fresh.

If you are washing cloth diapers and your child has problems with sensitive skin, Rockin Green is a good detergent to try. For regular use, there are other green detergents that offer better performance.
