How to Flash a Disc Drive

    • 1). Open your web browser. Visit the website of the company that manufactured your computer's disc drive. The company's logo will be printed on the very front of the disc tray of your drive, next to the model number and drive speed information.

    • 2). Click "Products" and look for the page that relates to your specific model of disc drive. You'll need to make sure you're finding the website for your specific model so you can get the exact update you need. The model number is listed on the front of the disc tray alongside the company information.

    • 3). Click "Downloads" on the page that relates to your specific model of disc drive. This will take you to a listing of files that can be downloaded to update various aspects of your drive. Look for a "Firmware" update. If one is present, click on the "Download" link to download the file to your computer.

    • 4). Double-click on the firmware update that you downloaded from the Internet. This will execute the installer. Click "Next" to begin the process of flashing your disc drive. You may hear your disc drive begin to make noises, even if there isn't a disc in the drive. The indicator lights on the front of the drive may also flash. When the process is finished, your disc drive will have been flashed and the firmware will be upgraded.
