- 1). Open the door so you can access both the inside and outside doorknobs. Locate the two screws on the inside doorknob cover plate. These screws secure the inner and outer doorknobs together.
- 2). Turn the two screws counterclockwise with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the inner doorknob away from the door and pull the outer doorknob away from the door.
- 3). Remove the two screws securing the latch plate to the outside edge of the door with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the latch plate assembly out of the door.
- 4). Turn the two screws securing the strike plate to the door jamb counterclockwise with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the strike plate off the door jamb.
- 1). Insert the new latch plate assembly through the hole on the edge of the door. The curve part of the door latch bolt should point to the outside of the door. Secure the door latch plate to the door with the wood screws that come with the doorknob kit.
- 2). Insert the outer doorknob into the door from the outside of the door. There usually are two sleeves and a cylinder that will fit in holes inside the door latch. Push the doorknob until the cover plate is flush against the door.
- 3). Insert the inner doorknob into the door from the inside of the door. Place the two retaining threaded screws into the holes on the cover plate and turn the screws clockwise to thread them into the outer doorknob sleeves. Tighten the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
- 4). Place the strike plate on the door jamb with the curve side bending around the inside of the door jamb. Secure with the screws that come with the kit.
