- Whether stains are from food or drink, harsh chemicals, efflorescence or salt-based pool filtration systems, traditional cement grouts are prone to this type of damage. Unfortunately, in many cases the damage is irreversible, necessitating a new grout job. On the other hand, epoxy grout is stain resistant.
- As time goes on -- especially in wet areas such as kitchens and bath areas -- mold and mildew forms on grout joints. Epoxy grouts contain antimicrobial agents that inhibit the growth of mold and mildew.
- One of the biggest contributing factors to the grungy-grout look is heavy foot traffic. Shoes and feet introduce a multitude of funky dirty compounds like dust, dirt, grease and organic materials, all of which stain traditional grout. Epoxy grout is mostly impervious to foot traffic staining.
- Color uniformity separates epoxy from other grout choices. Epoxy grout does not fade with time and homeowners won't be unpleasantly surprised by an epoxy grout color that doesn't seem to match their expectations.
- Because of its impervious nature, epoxy grout requires much less maintenance. Epoxy grout does not require a sealant as traditional cement-based grout does. Whereas only soap and water and diluted cleaning solutions are permissible with traditional cement grout, difficult-to-remove stains and soil can even be removed from epoxy grout with bleaching cleaners.
