- 1). Turn your HP Pavilion off and remove all of the wires form the back of the computer. Make sure you remember where all the wires go, as you will have to plug them back in shortly.
- 2). Locate the panel locking screw, which is in the middle of the right side when looking at the computer from the back. Turn the screw counter-clockwise until it comes out. Now slide the panel back about an inch and lift it away from the machine.
- 3). Unscrew the bracket cover located on the bottom-right corner on the back of the computer. Once the screw in the middle of the bracket is removed the bracket, it will slide off to the right.
- 4). Lay the computer on its side so that the side with the missing panel is facing up. Locate the graphics card that you want to replace. If you are having trouble finding the video card, look on the back of the machine to find the port where you connected your monitor. Place your finger on the port and wiggle it back and forth while looking inside the machine. The card that wiggles is the one you want to remove.
- 5). Unscrew the small screw the attaches the card's metal bracket to the back of the computer. Grab the card by each end and gently rock it back and forth until it comes free from the slot.
- 6). Grab the new video card by both ends and place it over the slot so that the ports are sticking out of the opening in the back of the computer. Press down on both ends of the card until it slides into place. Secure the metal bracket on the card to the back of the computer using the small screw you removed earlier.
- 7). Replace the bracket cover and the side panel in the reverse order that you removed them. Stand the computer up and replace all of the cables that you removed.
- 8). Power the computer on and place the software that came with the new video card into the CD drive. Your operating system will have native drivers that allow you to see your screen, but you will be running on a terrible resolution until you install the correct drivers for your card.
