- 1). Place the printer at a convenient spot on the desk. Make sure the printer cable you have is long enough to reach the computer without stretching too tight.
- 2). Plug the printer in and press the power button to turn it on. Lift the top cover and install the print cartridges.
- 3). Go to the Hewlett Packard website at HP.com and click on the "Support and Drivers" link at the top of the page. Choose the "Download drivers" option and type "Deskjet 5650" in the box. Click the "Go" button to find the appropriate drivers.
- 4). Choose your printer model from the list. Several printers associated with the 5650 line will appear. Click the link for your printer to continue.
- 5). Use the drop-down box to select your operating system. Double-click the driver to begin downloading it.
- 6). Double-click the downloaded file to begin the installation. Accept the default installation path and click "Next" to continue. Attach the printer cable when prompted, then print a test page to complete the installation.
