- 1). Smooth the wet concrete with a straightedge board. Be sure that the board is one foot longer than the patch, and drag the board slowly across the patch so that the ends make contact with the existing concrete while the middle smooths the wet concrete.
- 2). Fan out the concrete with a wooden trowel when the concrete patch loses the look of being wet, yet is still not cured. Evenly spread the concrete so that the sides of the patch are level with the existing surface.
- 3). Make three to four final passes over the concrete with a flat steel trowel. By this point, the concrete is almost stiff, yet still pliable to the sweeps of the trowel. These final passes will ensure that the patch is very smooth.
