- 1). Purchase a vent-free gas fireplace for your home. Of the various types of gas fireplaces, including b-vented and direct vented, a vent-free gas fireplace will conduct the most heat for your home.
- 2). Close the fireplace damper when you're done using your gas fireplace. This will prevent heat that was generated by the fireplace from being lost.
- 3). Isolate your gas fireplace. If possible, close off any doors to the room the fireplace is in. You should also close all windows in the room. If there are no doors to close off the room, turn the thermostat in your home down to 55 degrees, unless someone in your household is ill, elderly or a young child.
- 4). Install airtight glass doors to the outside of your gas fireplace. These doors should have as airtight a seal around your fireplace as possible. Glass is a heat conductor, so more heat will be given off by your glass fireplace if you have glass doors.
