Naturally kill mildew by laying your white fabrics in the sun.Sun image by Danni from Fotolia.com
Lay your white fabric on clean towels outdoors in direct sunlight. Leave your whites in the sun for a few hours to kill mildew spores and naturally bleach the stains left by the fungus. If a sunny spot is unavailable, hang your garment in a warm, dry room so the moisture in which the mildew is thriving is able to dry out of the fabric. - 2). Fill a bucket with a solution of half white vinegar and half water. Soak mildew-stained clothes in the diluted vinegar solution for 30 minutes. Vinegar kills any remaining mildew spores while loosening their stains and neutralizing musty mildew odor.
- 3). Rub a pre-wash stain remover onto any remaining mildew stains. Work the stain remover into the fabric fibers by rubbing the fabric together. Allow the stain remover to remain on the fabric for 10 minutes.
