- 1). Count the number of drill bits, screwdriver bits, or other tool bits you want to put into the storage caddy. Use the framing square to mark off the 2-by-4 into three sections. The first section should be the largest. Make a line at the 18-inch mark. The remaining two sections will be nine inches each. Make a mark to divide them.
- 2). Draw a grid on the 2-by-4 with lines at every 1/2 inch using the framing square and the carpenter's pencil. This will give you the points at which you will need to drill to create the bit holders.
- 3). Insert a 3/8-inch drill bit into the drill press. This bit will drill out the holes which will hold the screwdriver bits and any assorted bits you might have. Do not drill out the drill bit holes with the 3/8-inch drill bit. Proceed to drill out the holes along the grid lines in the two nine-inch sections of board, drilling only 3/4 of an inch into the board for each hole.
- 4). Insert the largest drill bit you have into the drill press and drill the hole which is to be at the back left of the spot where the drills are to be stored. Drill the holes for the drill bits at 1-inch depth. Each hole you drill will be the hole into which that drill will be stored. Proceed to use progressively smaller drill bits and continue drilling out the holes until there is a place for all your drill bits, ranging from largest to smallest.
