- 1). Stand in front of a mirror, so you can see the measurements in your reflection without craning your neck to read the tape.
- 2). Wear a thin, gauzy top that will not add thickness to your measurements, or remove your top so you are wearing only a bra. Make sure the undergarment is representative of the thickness of bra you would wear while wearing the sari.
- 3). Measure from the outside of your right shoulder to the outside of your left shoulder. Use the index finger on your right hand to pin the beginning of the measuring tape to your right shoulder. Pull the tape flat across your collarbone, and use your left index finger to pin the tape against your left shoulder. Mentally note the number of inches.
- 4). Continue holding the measuring tape against your right shoulder. Move the measuring tape from the outside of your left shoulder to where your neck intersects your shoulder -- just near your collarbone, on your right side. Write down this shoulder-to-neck measurement and the previous shoulder-to-shoulder measurement.
- 5). Loop the measuring tape down from your shoulder, under your armpit and back. Mentally note this measurement. Loosen the measuring tape, and pull it down to your bicep. Write down these two measurements.
- 6). Wrap the measuring tape around the base of your neck, and look in the mirror to see the measurement. Record this on your list.
- 7). Select a point on your chest as the lowest point of the neck of the blouse. Measure from this point up to your neck and then down to the bottom edge of your bra. Record both measurements.
- 8). Wrap the measuring tape around your midsection, along the bottom edge of your bra. Mentally note this measurement. Loosen the measuring tape, and pull it over your breasts at their highest point. Turn around and look in the mirror to check that the measuring tape is even -- pulling it up in the back, if necessary. Record both measurements, which constitute your blouse size.
- 9). Find your natural waist -- the narrowest point in your midsection, somewhere above your hips. Wrap the measuring tape around your waist, and mentally note this measurement. Loosen the measuring tape and pull it down to your hips, over the widest points on both your sides and behind. Write down both measurements.

Tuck the beginning of the measuring tape into the side of your shoe -- or dangle it against your ankle bone -- and hold it vertically, straight against your leg, up to your natural waist. Record these measurements. Along with your waist and hip measurements, these measurements form the sizing for your sari skirt, which you wear under your sari like a slip.
