- 1). Put on the rubber gloves and place layers of paper towel, followed by newspaper, to soak up the stain if it is fresh. Blot up as much of the stain as possible.
- 2). Rinse the area with fresh, cool water applied with new paper towels, then vacuum with the wet vacuum. If the stain is old, leave the water to soak for a couple of minutes before vacuuming. Repeat two or three times to ensure all traces of urine are gone, as well as any traces of carpet cleaner you may have used previously on the carpet. This is important to allow the odor neutralizer to work properly.
- 3). Read the label of the odor neutralizer. Pet-specific odor neutralizers are available at most pet stores. Apply the neutralizer as per the directions. Most odor neutralizers use enzymes to clean, helping to kill the odor of the stain, even to the sensitive sniffer of a dog.
- 4). Apply carpet stain remover to the yellow stain if it is still visible after the neutralizer treatment. Use stain remover only after the odor is neutralized, otherwise the neutralizer will work on the smell of the stain remover instead of the urine. Follow directions on the stain remover.
