Today, I attended the Influence Live Event in Macao, China put on by Polaris Global Marketing and had the pleasure of listening to International Motivational Speaker and best selling author Kevin Kelly; and Wow what an amazing and educational day.
Kevin impressed on me many great questions.
The one that most effected me was "Did I believe that everybody could be my teacher today?" My answer was yes, however, I certainly can't say I was actually living by this.
I certainly would not have considered my server at a restaurant to be my teacher.
However just imagine the world of possibilities if we consciously started to believe this and look at others as teachers, even servers at restaurants.
Heck I was a server at one time and I have A lot to teach.
OK great so everybody is my teacher what does this mean? Let's assume you have a goal and then you were conscious that everybody can be your teacher.
You then started listening more to everyone and what they had to teach you.
Do you think you would see more solutions? I sure do and will be using Kevin's advice and writing this question down and reviewing at least twice a day and expecting to see solutions I have never seen before.
"Knowledge will always give you enough reason not to act.
" Another great nugget from today's event.
And I mention it here because I can picture people reading this and saying "nonsense", not everybody I meet is my teacher.
What about my annoying workmate that I can't stand.
What about my paper boy who is always late with my newspaper.
Well, to that I say take on the question and find out for yourself what you have to learn from them.
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
You also might want to consider what Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the greatest minds of modern times is quoted saying "Every man is my superior in some way in that I can learn from him".
Action step take out piece of paper ideally something small enough you can carry with you and write on it "Did I believe that everybody could be my teacher today?" Look at it in the morning before bed and several times through out the day if necessary.
Become conscious that everybody has something to teach you and start expecting to see more and learn more in your everyday life.
