- 1). Check the tip of your chain saw bar for wear -- a worn bar tip makes a chain saw unsafe to operate. Replace your chain saw bar if it has a nonreplaceable tip that has worn to the extent that the chain jumps or slips from the bar.
- 2). Install a replacement bar when the existing chain groove in the bar of your chain saw wears out. Recognize this problem when the chain becomes loose and floppy during normal operation.
- 3). Inspect the bar frequently for chips along the edges. Tiny chips or flakes develop over time and may cause the chain to jump off the bar.
