- 1). Switch the "Focus Mode Selector" switch located at the left of the lens to "C" for "Continuous-servo AF" mode.
- 2). Press the "Menu" button on the back of the camera to access the Nikon D300's main menu.
- 3). Highlight "Autofocus" using the up or down directional buttons, and press the "OK" button on the left side of the LCD screen.
- 4). Select "Focus Tracking With Lock-On" from the menu and then choose "AF Long," "AF Normal" or "AF Short," depending on how long you would like the camera to wait before adjusting the focus. The camera waits longer to readjust the focus when set to "AF Long," and a shorter amount of time with the reduced settings.
- 5). Point the camera at the subject of the photograph and press the shutter button halfway. The camera will focus on the subject. During this time, if any moving object passes through the frame, the AF tracking feature will maintain the focus of the subject for the amount of time set by the camera.
- 6). Press the shutter button fully to snap the photograph.
