- 1). Download a data recovery program that you want to use with your Smart Media card. Save the file to a location on your system, such as the desktop or the Local Disk (C:).
- 2). Connect the SmartMedia card to your computer with an adapter, a memory card reader or connect the camera to a USB port on your computer.
- 3). Close the Autoplay window if it is displayed on the screen. Click the "X" in the upper right corner to close the window.
- 4). Double-click on the downloaded file to install the program to your system. Double-click the icon that is on the desktop to open the data recovery program.
- 5). Select the drive letter for your camera or SmartMedia card from the list or select an icon that appears on the screen.
- 6). Click the "Next" or "Start" buttons to have the program scan your SmartMedia card. Wait while the program performs the scan and displays the photos that can be recovered in the preview window.
- 7). Put a check in the box for the photos that you want to recover and then click the "Next" or "Save Files" button to save the recovered pictures to your system.
