- 1). Select the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your Vista operating system and then select "Control Panel."
- 2). Select "Appearance and Personalization."
- 3). Click "Personalization," then choose "Change desktop icons."
- 4). Locate the box listed next to "Recycle Bin," and make sure it is checked. Click "OK" once completed. The icon should now appear on your desktop.
