- 1). Pry off the cap on top of the faucet with a flat-head screwdriver to expose the screw that is used to secure the faucet handle.
- 2). Remove the screw from the handle, using the screwdriver. If your faucet has a set screw, an Allen wrench will be needed to remove the screw. Turn the screw counterclockwise or to the left, then take it out of the handle.
- 3). Pull the handle off the faucet and slide the spout sleeve off to expose the retainer nut. The retainer nut is located at the base of the faucet body.
- 4). Unscrew the retainer nut from the faucet body with the pliers. Take the retainer nut off and set it aside.
- 5). Insert the tip of the needle-nose pliers into the faucet body and remove the retainer clip from the slot that is located just under the rim. Pry the retainer clip out of the faucet body with the flat-head screwdriver.
- 6). Place the end of the pliers on the cartridge stem and pull the cartridge out of the faucet body.
- 7). Insert the new cartridge into the faucet and insert the retainer clip in the slot. Replace the retainer nut and tighten with the pliers.
- 8). Place the spout sleeve on the faucet body and set the handle in place. Use the screwdriver to reinstall and tighten the screw to secure the handle.
- 9). Place the handle cap back on the handle to complete the project.
