The right kind of faucet fixture can make or break your plumbing area. These days you can be sure to find a faucet to meet your needs. However with so many different styles (modern, rustic, futuristic etc.) as well as heads (gooseneck, waterfall, handheld nozzle etc.), it can be particularly hard to find the exact one to meet your needs. In this article I will be outlining the some of the different types of faucet available for purchase, as well as which style and type would be the most ideal to suit your home for the most value for money.
- The Kitchen -
In the kitchen you can't go far wrong with a gooseneck type faucet. These particular faucets are as the name would suggest, and consist of a long neck with rises upwards and out. This gives whoever is using the faucet access to taller and more cumbersome objects, such as pots, pitchers and vases. For a lower profile of fixture that isn't as prominent over your basin, consider a simple spout arrangement. These aren't as capable of filling taller objects and are limited to filling cups and small pans, so consider a rectractable spray spout as an accessory to such a layout. A retractable sprayer is capable of filling up almost anything with water, due to the fact it is essentially a hose with a faucet on the end.
Specifically, for the kitchen, I recommend the gooseneck fixture alongside the rectractable spray accessory, as this provides the most flexibility in getting water where it needs to be and not all over the kitchen floor! The price for a standard gooseneck faucet and sprayer combo is very cost-effective, saving you more money than you need spend.
- The Bathroom -
There is a lot more flexibility in the bathroom, as you will mainly be using the fixtures within it for personal hygiene uses. For a sink, you can have gooseneck, single spout, waterfall or mixer faucets installed as these are all capable of delivering water to your hands effectively. It is important to remember that the particular fixuture utilises a mixed output of both hot and cold water through the same faucet to ensure the water temperature is neither too hot or too cold.
For the bathtub you can only go as far as your imagination! For your tub consider looking for a faucet with the quickest flow of water possible. This can come in the form of a waterfall type or deck-mounted fixture and look very elegant in any bathroom. Be aware that these cost more than traditional type of faucet, but are worth it for the aesthetic touch and increased water flow.
- My Advice -
In the modern home there is no need for individually hot and cold faucets, mixer faucets are truly the future so do not waste money buying these separate. The most versatile type of faucet you can buy for any home is the gooseneck faucet, as this provides both flexibility and the desired water temperature you require. These faucets work in both the kitchen and bathroom with ease and are the safest bet. It is important, however, to consider the look for your home. A chrome fixture will look appealing in a newly-built modernised room, not-so fitting however with a traditional style. Whilst these cost more than bog-standard faucets, they can pay for themselves by seamlessly integrating into their environment and potentially adding value to a home.
