- 1). Open the Empathy instant messaging program in Ubuntu. Click the "Envelope" icon in the top taskbar in the Ubuntu Gnome desktop, and then click "Chat" to open Empathy.
- 2). Initiate a chat with one of your IM contacts who will receive the sent file.
- 3). Right-click on the file to send to the recipient, and click the "Send To" option. A dialog box launches.
- 4). Click the "Send As" drop-down box and select "Empathy."
- 5). Click the "Send To" drop-down box and select the recipient from your list of Empathy IM contacts.
- 6). Click the "Send" button. The file is sent via Empathy to the selected recipient.
