- 1). Plug the cord for the Dremel rotary tool into a wall outlet, unless you use a cordless model.
- 2). Press the shaft lock button and turn the shaft until the lock meets the shaft. Loosen the collet on the end of the tool with the collet wrench. A collet is similar to a chuck on a standard size drill and is what holds the bits in place.
- 3). Insert the polishing point or polishing wheel accessory onto the collet on the Dremel tool. Tighten the collet with the collet wrench to secure the accessory. Press the shaft lock button and turn the shaft counterclockwise to separate the lock from the shaft.
- 4). Set the end of the Dremel tool on the surface that you want to polish, such as metal. Press the trigger on the Dremel tool and run the Dremel tool polishing point or wheel over the surface to begin polishing. Keep the speed of the Dremel set at 1 or 2.
- 5). Continue polishing with the polishing point or polishing wheel until the surface becomes smooth.
- 6). Remove the polishing point or polishing wheel accessory from the tool. Insert the felt polishing tip or cloth wheel attachment into the collet.
- 7). Apply a small amount of polishing compound to the polished surface. Place the Dremel tool onto the polishing compound and press the trigger to begin buffing the material. Continue buffing until you have a high luster on the surface.
