- 1). Clean the area in and around your gutter. Determine exactly where you want to place the downspout. Use a marker to outline the end piece of the gutter and use the metal cutters to remove the end piece.
- 2). Cut the edges as smooth and clean as possible, leaving no jagged edges. This will help make the downspout fit snugly. I need be, use sandpaper to smooth out the rough edges. The surface must be clean possible when you apply adhesive to create the connecting bond.
- 3). Apply the metal adhesive glue to the edges and underside of the outlet and push to the newly cut end piece. Place a heavy object on top to help the adhesive glue bond to the surfaces. Read the instructions on the adhesive for the required bonding time. Allow an extra 30 to 60 minutes to ensure adhesion has occurred.
- 4). Cut the downspout to the length that you will need on the gutter. Attach the top portion of the downspout to the gutter outlet with a 1/4- to 1/2-inch screw. Use the drill to push the screw in. Put on goggles before you do this to prevent metal shavings from hitting your eyes. Insert a screw into each connection area. Place the metal gutter strap over the connected extension, and secure into the side of the house with two more screws, one on each side of the strap.
