- 1). Insert the pen drive into one of the open USB ports on your computer. Wait for a few seconds until Windows launches a dialog box for the external storage device. Close the dialog box.
- 2). Click the "Start" menu and right-click "Computer." Select "Manage."
- 3). Click "Disk Management." Right-click the drive dedicated to your pen drive under "Devices with removable storage." Select "Change Drive Letter and Paths."
- 4). Type the drive letter of your choice in the "Change Drive Letter" box.
- 5). Find an image with a .ico extension to customize your pen drive icon. You may browse the Web for .ico files. Save the .ico file on your computer and give it a file name of "autorun.ico" (without quotation marks).
- 6). Right-click "autorun.ico" file and choose "Copy."
- 7). Click the "Start" menu and choose "Computer." Double-click your pen drive icon. Right-click and choose "Paste" to copy the file "autorun.ico" into the root directory.
- 8). Click the "Start" menu and type "Notepad" in the search box. Click "Notepad" from the search results.
- 9). Type the following two lines of code on the blank Notepad text file:

icon=autorun.ico - 10
Click the "File" tab and choose "Save." Type "autorun.inf" as the file name. Browse to navigate to the root directory of the pen drive (from Step 7) and save the file. Now, when the flash drive is inserted into a computer, Windows will read the autorun.inf file, which will then tell Windows to use the custom icon. - 11
Customize the pen drive by adding your name or phone number to the drive. This way, people can identify the storage device and return it back to you if it is lost. Click the "Start" menu and choose "Computer." Right-click the pen drive icon and choose "Rename." Type your name or phone number as the pen drive name and press "Enter" key. - 12
Unplug the pen drive. Remember to Eject the drive properly before removing it.
