- 1). Remove the screws on your computer case and slide the case cover off the computer. Typically, the case cover screws are located on the back panel of the computer. Removing the cover displays the motherboard.

Locate the currently installed RAM. RAM chips are long, rectangular components that slide into slots. The slots are typically in the center section of the motherboard. - 3). Find any open slots next to the current RAM chips. The slots stand out against other expansion slots. They are typically blue or black as opposed to the white expansion slots.
- 4). Slide the case cover back on to the computer and replace the screws.
