- 1). Log in to the local computer with the domain user account. Once the computer and the domain user are a part of the domain, the user can log in to the domain on the machine. When logging in to the machine for the first time, a directory for the domain account is created on the local machine. This directory is used later in the conversion.
- 2). Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop. Double-click the "C" drive. In the "Documents and Settings" folder, the username of the domain user profile is saved. In the same directory, the username of the local account is saved. To convert the local account to a domain account, the profile needs to be copied.
- 3). Log out of the machine and log back in as the administrator of the domain. To copy the files, the user needs administrator rights on the computer.
- 4). Navigate to the location of the local user account indicated in Step 2. Copy the files from the local user account director and paste the files to the domain user directory.
- 5). Log off the machine and log in as the domain user. At this point, the profile and settings from the local account should be converted to the domain account.
