- 1). Locate the Smart Connect tubing on the rear of your GE Profile refrigerator. It’s the water tube connected to the back toward the bottom of the refrigerator. Follow the tube from the rear until you reach the connection from the tube to the shutoff valve.
- 2). Turn off the water supply to the pipe feeding the shutoff valve.
- 3). Place a 5-gallon bucket beneath the shutoff valve. Place the jaws of the wrench around the valve nut and then give it a turn counter-clockwise to loosen the nut. One complete rotation of the nut should allow you to finish unscrewing it from the shutoff valve by hand unless the nut was over-tightened, causing the leak. Remove the nut completely, exposing the end of the tube in the valve.
- 4). Remove the tube from the shutoff valve, taking care to hold it over the bucket as water contained in the tube will begin to leak out. Hang the tube end over the bucket to allow it to empty.
- 5). Clean the end of the tube, and both the inside and outside of the valve connection with a clean cloth.
- 6). Push the end of the Smart Connect tube back into the shutoff valve opening. Pull the nut over the tread and then twist it on by hand, tightening it as much as possible. Use the wrench to tighten the nut one more turn.
- 7). Restore the water supply, and watch for any further sign of leaking.
