- 1). Measure your shower's dimensions to get an idea of what kind of shower tiles you will want to research. Larger showers will most likely warrant larger shower tiles (for easier installation), while smaller shower spaces are better suited for smaller tiles.
- 2). Determine the style you want to have with your shower. If you want something colorful, look for tiles that have decorative patterns, images or even murals made of several tiles. If looking for flat colors, look for base colors like white.
- 3). Decide on the materials you want to use for your shower wall tiles. Acrylic and porcelain are two common types of shower wall tile and can be found in generous supply at most home repair stores. Other materials that can be used as shower walls include glass blocks, glass tiles, stone and specially treated wood.
- 4). Budget your materials. Some tile material is quite expensive and can quickly run up the costs of renovation. If working on a tight budget, keep yourself constrained to the more common materials like porcelain.
- 5). Consider maintenance time and costs. Unlike other areas of your home, your bathroom will not be on constant display. You can afford to sacrifice some aesthetics in order to keep maintenance costs low. Additionally, depending on the size and number of tiles used, you will likely have to regularly scrub for mildew in the grout lines between the tiles.
