- 1). Measure down from one corner on the pole with a tape measure and make a mark at 12 inches. Lay a straightedge diagonally down from the opposite corner to the mark.
- 2). Draw a line along the straightedge. Use your imagination to draw the line where the circumference of the pole drops away from the straightedge.
- 3). Place a handsaw along the line and cut diagonally through the pole to form a long, sharp point on the end of the pole.
- 4). Pick up the pole and place it on top of the other pole to be spliced. Flush it with the end and trace the sharp tip onto the other pole. Use the handsaw to cut the matching sharp tip onto the other pole.
- 5). Spread glue on both cuts. Spin the poles end to end and place the glued tips together. Flush them and then randomly shoot 10 to 15 staples through both spear tips on both sides with a staple gun.
- 6). Place six hand clamps along the length of the joint and tighten until glue oozes out. Wait 24 hours for the glue to set up. Remove the clamps.
