- 1). Look through the Massey Ferguson owners manual if applicable for the tractor's serial number. The serial number will be either on the front cover or within the first two pages. If not, move on to the tractor.
- 2). Climb up into the tractor's seat. Look below the lower left-hand side and lower right-hand side of the steering wheel panel for the serial number. Certain older Ferguson tractors have the serial number stamped to a plate that is mounted to one of these areas of the steering wheel panel. If so, write down the serial number on a notepad. If not, climb down off the tractor.
- 3). Inspect the left- and right-hand sides of the tractor's main frame. Certain older Ferguson tractors have the serial number stamped to a plate on the outside of one of these areas of the main frame. If so, write down the serial number on the notepad. If not, move underneath the tractor.
- 4). Inspect the top of the transmission housing for the serial number. Certain older Ferguson tractors have the serial number stamped to a plate that is mounted to the top of the transmission housing. If so, write down the serial number on the notepad. Once the serial number has been located and written down, write down the location of the serial number also.
- 5). Contact or visit a local Massey Ferguson dealer or a local Massey Ferguson parts store to identify the make, model and manufacture date by the serial number. The store representative will cross reference the serial number and locate the make, model and manufacture date of the tractor. This completes the process of identifying an older Ferguson tractor.
