- 1). Unplug your HP laptop and remove the battery. Because you'll be opening the case to the screen, you don't want any power going to the electronic components.
- 2). Unscrew all the screws holding the screen in place. There are usually four to five Phillips-head screws, depending on your HP laptop model. Place the screws in a safe location. They are small and easy to lose, so consider using a resealable plastic bag or small box to store them in temporarily.
- 3). Remove the screen's bezel, which is the plastic frame on the front of the screen. Use a small flat-head screwdriver or a guitar pick to pry the bezel gently away from the laptop. Set the bezel and screen face down on a soft surface, such as a towel.
- 4). Remove the old screen inverter. It's located at the bottom of the screen, usually held in place by a single screw. Unscrew the screw and store it safely. Unplug the two cables connected to the inverter and lift it out of the laptop.
- 5). Compare the HP part number on the back of the inverter with the part number of the new inverter you plan to place inside the laptop. Make sure the part numbers are the same.
- 6). Plug the cables into the new screen inverter. Screw the old screw into place to secure the inverter.
- 7). Snap the screen bezel back into place. Turn the screws to hold the bezel securely. Make sure all the screws are tight to prevent further screen flicker. Replace the battery and plug in the laptop if necessary. Turn it on to test the screen's functionality.
