- 1). Turn of the water supply to your toilet. Empty the toilet bowl by flushing it.
- 2). Remove the caps that cover the two bolts on the side of your toilet. Loosen the nuts with a wrench and remove them. Lift the toilet from the floor.
- 3). Use a screwdriver to pry loose the wax from the flange seal that sits on top of the pipe. Remove the screws that attach the flange to the floor. Lift up the flange, and remove any wax underneath it.
- 4). Pry loose the wax on top of the toilet pipe with a screwdriver or putty knife. Remove loose pieces of wax by pulling on them with your fingers or tweezers.
- 5). Spray some WD-40 on any stubborn wax that is still remaining. Remove the wax by wiping off the area with a rag. Spray on a cleaning solution to remove chemicals from the WD-40. The Hammerzone.com recommends using Simple Green to remove the WD-4O residue.
- 6). Remove the wax from the bottom of the toilet as well, using the methods described above.
- 7). Install a new toilet wax seal, and reattach your toilet.
